The Problem We Address

Why This Lab Was Needed

Government schools in the hills of Uttarakhand face challenges that most urban schools never encounter — shrinking enrolment, chronic teacher shortages, and multigrade classrooms where one teacher handles five subjects across three grades.

Difficult hill geography makes commuting impractical, and private coaching is financially out of reach for most. Rural students, as capable as their urban counterparts simply do not have access to quality learning resources.

The Digital Learning Lab was set up in May 2025 to remove these barriers — giving every student a fair chance to learn, practice, and grow at their own pace.

"Online learning can be a lifeline to those who have obstacles, such as geographical distances or physical disabilities."
-Paul Levinson
  • Shrinking enrolment in hill schools
  • Teacher shortages and multigrade classrooms
  • Difficult hill geography limiting access
  • Limited access to quality learning resources

Inspiration

Inspired by a Movement

The Digital Learning Lab at Ramgarh draws inspiration from the Kabeer Excellence Foundation, a non-profit that has established over 140+ digital learning labs in Uttar Pradesh to support underprivileged students.

Their proven model — well-equipped labs, trusted platforms, and trained supervisors — has demonstrated that academic outcomes can be transformed even in the most resource-constrained settings. Our work at GIC Ramgarh Talla is a beginning, and we hope to expand this model to more schools across Uttarakhand.
